Community of Hope
This ministry extends GSP's spiritual community to those parishioners who are unable to attend church temporarily or permanently. The ministry averages 241 contacts per month to about 427 people. Volunteers visit people in their homes or at hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or retirement homes. They may also assist with transportation, food, or accompany a person to medical appointments. Pastoral care visitors may also assist the care receiver to find other parish or community resources.
This ministry serves people from the Tucson community, as well as members of the parish. Its goal is to provide relaxation, healing, and loving support to all in a safe, Christ-centered environment. The certified Healing Touch practitioners are well-trained and experienced. Many people find Healing Touch a spiritual experience and several clients have become members of GSP by way of this ministry.
Intercessory Prayer Team
Volunteers pray for members and friends of GSP, as well as the world's concerns. This ministry is open to all who are interested in praying for others.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors
Pastoral Care Team
The volunteers of this ministry care for parishioners who have spiritual or physical needs by providing "food for the journey" for those who are not able to attend church on Sundays or who have additional needs that are not met through regular GSP programs. One of its primary goals is for people not to "fall through the cracks."
Volunteers are clergy, lay members who have training through the Community of Hope or a similar group, and medical or mental health care professionals. This team meets monthly to review an ongoing list of people who receive visits or other services; this regular monitoring allows volunteers to note changes in needs and to identify possible care givers.
Volunteers comprise a silent/behind-the-scenes group that celebrates its members' gifts and talents by making shawls for those in need.
Volunteers make quilts for children, the elderly, and anyone who faces illness, stress or grief. Its mission is to warm people's hearts and put smiles on their faces so they know GSP cares.
